Contact (1997)
This is a true big-screen, big-sound treat, starring Jodie Foster as Dr. Eleanor Arroway, who is convinced that the search for extraterrestrial life is a worthy cause. Based on the novel written by Carl Sagan, "Contact" is much more than a science fiction film. In fact, its themes are so universal that it can hardly be classified as sci fi alone. This film reaches deep, and succeeds. It's too bad Sagan, who co-wrote the screenplay, died before the film's completion, because he would have been proud of director Robert Zemeckis' final product. Make sure you see this film in a big theater with excellent sound quality; you'll want to get the full effect when ET calls!
