Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
The restored version of "Lawrence of Arabia" is easily one of the best films ever made. Directed by Sir David Lean, one of the greatest directors ever, this intriguing story of British officer T.E. Lawrence is captivating in every respect. Peter O'Toole stars as Lawrence, an arrogant yet brilliant military strategist who succeeds in uniting feuding Arab tribes into a great army to battle the Turks in World War I Arabia. O'Toole is joined by fellow brilliant actors Alec Guiness, Anthony Quinn, Omar Sharif, and Claude Raines, forming one of the best supporting casts in the history of film (and you thought "The Towering Inferno" had a lot of stars!). "Lawrence of Arabia" won seven Academy Awards, including best film, and, truly, is in a class by itself. There are many memorable scenes in this one, which is why it is impossible to single out one as extraordinary. Quite simply, the entire film is extraordinary, and if you've never seen it, please do yourself a favor and rent it today. Just be sure you get the restored version (in Letterbox format).
