Local Hero (1983)

Director Bill Forsyth here captures the charm and spirit of a coastal Scottish village about to be puchased by an American oil mogul (Burt Lancaster). Peter Riegert stars as the chief American negotiator who, though unanxious to leave the comfort of Houston to travel there to complete the deal, quickly discovers the charm of Scotland's "unsoiled" coastline. Forsyth's subtle direction is unobtrusively stylistic -- and perhaps at its best -- and draws you into this clever story with ease.
