The Lonely Guy (1984)
Steve Martin teams with Charles Grodin in this bittersweet comedy about two aging lonely guys who just can't seem to find the love they seek. Though sometimes sad and really pathetic, this film certainly has numerous humorous moments -- hmm, try saying that really fast! -- and many memorable scenes, including the infamous restaurant scene. The film also features Steve Lawrence, whose character offers a comically outrageous balance to the life of the lonely guy. Judith Ivey stars as the main object of Martin's desire, but Martin and Grodin are the focus. And Merv Griffin and Dr. Joyce Brothers have humorous cameos as well. Neil Simon contributed to the screenplay, based on co-writer Bruce Jay Friedman's "The Lonely Guy's Book of Life."
