Trainspotting (1995)

Just another great film from Channel Four Films (aka Film Four International) -- a production company that, with each passing year, churns out consistently great, terrific films unlike anything churned out from Hollywood.

Okay, so, to the subject, "Trainspotting," another great dark comedy by director Danny Boyle ("Shallow Grave"), follows the "highs" and lows of some heroin addicts languishing in Edinburgh. Ewan McGregor stars as "Renton," the main character who struggles with addiction, withdrawal, friends, family, sex, lack of sex, and a few other things. Based on a novel by Irvine Welsh, who co-wrote the screenplay, "Trainspotting" is at its best during Renton's narration, which is quite humourous, while Boyle's cinematic subtleties and extraordinary fantasy scenes lift this film to memorable heights. You will find yourself recounting "Trainspotting's" numerous memorable scenes for weeks and weeks -- and probably longer.
