Screenwriting 101: tips on how to write a script

If you've read a screenplay you're aware of its specific formatting, but screenwriting on a professional level is much more complex, just as architecture differs from drawing lines on a page. You may have a good idea of how you'd like to design your own house, but unless you're a trained architect, would you really want to have contractors build the house based solely on your sketch?

Screenwriting is like architecture: a screenplay is a blueprint of a story that must completely and succinctly reflect its structure and "character." Taking this a step further, each page of a screenplay is a canvas through which vivid images of your characters, their actions and the story must evoke emotion.
